Libra Robinson 7444 Georgia Ave NW Apt.205 Washington, DC 20012 202-427-3600 leelibra342@gmail.com April 3, 2023 Dear Dr. Jacob Bolotin Awards Committee, It is with great honor that I nominate The i3s Foundation, Inc (i3S) for the 2023 Dr. Jacob Bolotin award. Originally, i3S was founded by Joyce Brooks, Lois Staves and Reggie Pratt as a peer-to-peer support group on March 7 th , 2014. Every Tuesday, they have created a safe place from 7pm-9pm where blind and visually impaired people of all ages and walks of life could openly express their feelings without fear or judgement. Since its inception over the years, i3S has built upon its original mission to improve the lives of persons with disabilities, particularly those that are low-vision or blind. They provide workshops where i3S has hosted and invited experts to speak on a plethora of topics. They Include: Safety, taxes, making final arrangements and so much more. i3S has also implemented a weekly health and wellness component on Thursdays. These topics range from diabetes, nutrition, meditation etc. The I3S knows all these topics are not blind or sighted based, but a part of the human experience. They have ensured that blind and visually impaired people across the District, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) and beyond have the tools to be independent. They have developed workshops that impact the blind community, such as, Tech Talk Tuesdays, The importance of the White Cane, and Friends and Family Day. The Friends and Family Day is especially impactful, it allows the family a chance to speak about their feelings of having a loved one who is experiencing sight loss. As members of the NFB, Joyce Brooks and Lois Staves have used their platform to spread the mission of the National Federation of The Blind. The i3S family are from DC, Virginia and among other states across the country as far as California. i3S has filled a big gap specifically in Maryland. The i3s Foundations does peer support groups and assistive technology training services for the blind community and is the only organization providing the services in Prince Georges County. I am the founder and CEO of N’Sight VIP Services. I teach technology training for blind and visually impaired people. The i3s Foundation has acquired my services for residents in Prince Georges County who are having trouble with today’s technology. In addition, these two dynamic individuals have assisted men and women that are blind and homeless with locating shelter, food, and clothing. As a proud 2019 winner of the prestigious Dr. Jacob Bolotin Award, I know that the monetary award I received allowed me to do so much more in my community. I know with the same opportunity, i3S will be able to expand their future endeavors to obtain a better quality of life for the blind and visually impaired community in Prince Georges County and beyond. I thank you in advance for your consideration. Best Regards Libra Robinson President of The NFB Greater Washington DC Chapter
