Please enter your letter of recommendation in the text area provided below: April 11, 2023 Dear Dr. Jacob Bolotin Award Committee, Neil Soiffer has participated in the development of ISO 14289 (PDF/UA), the ISO standard for accessible PDF technology, since 2004, when he joined the nascent PDF/UA committee at AIIM. I was that committee’s chair, a position I now hold at the ISO level. Neil is still on the committee, still contributing. Over the 19 years since 2004, through literally hundreds (over 500) meetings, Neil has provided his deep knowledge and insights to the development of both ISO 14289 (PDF/UA), and ISO 32000, the PDF specification itself. His expertise, tenacity and dedication to the development and support of MathML is an inspiration to all in our world, as is his clear commitment to the visual disability community. The PDF Association’s role is, in part, to promote understanding regarding accessible PDF technology, and here too, Neil has helped with expert guidance on our best-practice guides, all on a volunteer basis. The PDF Association and the PDF industry in general treasure Neil Soiffer’s contributions towards the development of accessible PDF. I sincerely hope that the NFB will recognize Neil’s work on behalf of accessibility in general, including PDF accessibility, by awarding him the Dr. Jacob Bolotin Award.
