For the last three years, Miah Hallett has demonstrated Idaho Fine Arts Academy’s mission of “Artistic, Academic, and Civic Excellence”. She tackles challenges with determination and a relentless pursuit of success, and consistently achieves as a result. Even when faced with college level courses, an extra round of state testing, or a busy performance schedule, Miah maintains a positive attitude and communicates well to reach her goal of high achievement. Miah began attending my math classes at IFAA in 10th grade. She arrived with strong math abilities but was determined to increase her academic skills. She put incredible effort into her class participation, including asking questions, answering questions, completing all assignments, and participating in every class competition and wild activity I could come up with (like shooting a motorized Nerf gun at a whiteboard target with suction cup darts to illustrate number theory concepts). Miah also utilized every resource possible to ensure she understood the concepts. She used lunchtime and office hours to seek additional help when needed. She reached out via email any time she was absent from class (she was rarely absent from class) and always checked in to see if she was missing anything. Miah’s hard work paid off; not only did she earn an “A” in class, but she also earned “Advanced” on the 10th grade required state math testing. During my 11th grade class, Miah had the opportunity to earn college credit. The 11th grade math class is, arguably, the most difficult math on IFAA’s campus, and Miah felt it. But she did not back down. I have never seen Miah back down from a challenge since she started attending IFAA. Miah continued to ask questions, seek help, and fight for high achievement. Once again, her commitment to understanding the concepts led to success and an “A” for college credit. Miah’s 11th grade class had an additional challenge; the state decided to move the testing requirement to 11th grade for the first time ever. This meant that Miah had to, once again, take the required state testing. Miah’s response? She maintained her everglowing positive attitude and simply did additional practice to earn, once again, a top rank of “Advanced”! Miah’s artistic excellence is evidenced by her performances and awards. Her academic record proves her academic excellence. However, her civic excellence is what you will notice first. Miah is an incredibly kind, patient, and respectful young lady. She is hard-working and independent, but humble and willing to learn from others. She expects nothing but gives everything. Miah truly embodies IFAA’s “Civic Excellence”. I am so proud of all that Miah has accomplished these three years at IFAA. I am eager to see what she does beyond high school! She can reach any goal she sets.
